Cancer Resources

This section is under development.  Resources listed do not necessarily represent the views of the California Environmental Health Tracking Program.  We welcome suggestions and additions to the resource list.

California State Government:

California Cancer Registry
CCR is California’s statewide population-based cancer surveillance system.  CCR is a collaborative effort involving the California Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program, and the Public Health Institute.



  • CCR also has an on-line query system to access cancer incidence counts and rates for adult cancers.

Federal Government:

National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The NPCR was established to provide funds to states and territories to improve and/or develop cancer registries.

National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program
SEER collects information on cancer incidence, survival, prevalence, and mortality from specific geographic areas in the US.

Non-governmental, Advocacy, and Community Organizations:

American Cancer Society (ACS)
ACS is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization committed to addressing cancer through programs of research, education, patient service, advocacy, and rehabilitation.

Breast Cancer Action
The Breast Cancer Action is a national education and advocacy organization focused on breast cancer prevention and awareness.

Breast Cancer Fund
The Breast Cancer Fund works to identify and advocates for the elimination of environmental and other preventable causes of breast cancer.

National Disease Cluster Alliance (NDCA)
NDCA works to create new protocols and tools for rapid and appropriate response to communities with a suspected disease cluster.  NDCA is comprised of representatives from non-profit organizations, community activists, scientists, and academia.

Cancer Statistics, National Cancer Institute
NCI provides national and state-level data on cancer trends and statistics.

Cancer Mortality Maps and Graphs, National Cancer Institute
This web site provides interactive maps, graphs, text, tables and figures showing geographic patterns and time trends of cancer death rates for the time period 1950-1994 for more than 40 cancers.
