Greenhouse Gases and Climate Change

The earth's temperature equilibrium is regulated by the "greenhouse effect", in which naturally occurring "greenhouse" gases absorb heat radiated from the earth's surface.  This heat is then radiated back to the earth's surface.  Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and water vapor.  Greenhouse gases produced by humans are a major contributor to global warming.
