California State Government:


California Breathing, California Department of Public Health
California Breathing implements a strategic approach to asthma prevention by focusing on childcare, schools, disparities, work-related asthma, housing, and surveillance.

California Asthma Public Health Initiative (CAPHI), California Department of Public Health
CAPHI seeks to improve the quality of life for people with asthma through implementing programs and policies in asthma education, management, and prevention.

Federal Government:


National Asthma Control Program, Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
CDC’s National Asthma Control Program supports the goals of Healthy People 2010 by conducting asthma surveillance, funding state and local asthma interventions and activities, and supporting policy and legislation.

Non-governmental, Advocacy, and Community Organizations:


Regional Asthma Management and Prevention Initiative (RAMP)
RAMP brings together local diverse partners to collaborate in reducing the burden of asthma in California. RAMP provides support to Ditching Dirty Diesel, a coalition of environmental health and justice organizations advocating to reduce neighborhood emissions from diesel vehicles.

Community Action to Fight Asthma (CAFA)
CAFA is an initiative that encompasses a diverse network of regional and local coalitions in California. CAFA is coordinated by RAMP and the National Latino Research Center.

The American Lung Association of California (ALAC)
ALAC has regional offices located throughout California and has been involved in asthma management and prevention for many years.

Breathe California
Breathe California is a statewide organization that works to reduce the impact of lung disease through prevention, education, advocacy, and patient services.

California Health Interview Survey (CHIS)
CHIS is a population-based health survey that collects health information among the California adult and child population every two years.


Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), California Health and Human Services Agency
OSHPD provides services to hospitals and other healthcare facilities that include the collection and dissemination of hospitalization and emergency department data.
