California County Asthma Mortality Chart Book
Written: 2000

Asthma is a chronic disease that can present on a spectrum of severity. Mortality rates measure a rare, severe outcome of this disease, and do not indicate asthma prevalence.  This report presents asthma mortality rates in California counties from 1990 through 1997, along with state and national rates for comparison.  Rates are shown separately by race/ethnicity to help county health officials identify populations most at risk for severe asthma outcomes. Individual county data are presented in tables, maps and graphs. Rates are not presented for some counties because of small numbers.
