02/2005 - 08/2006

This is a pilot study of a pre-intervention/post-intervention indoor air quality assessment in 10-20 homes of senior citizens residing in a heavy-traffic impacted area of West Oakland, California. The primary aims of this study are:
(1)To evaluate the efficacy of commercial HEPA filters in reducing exposure to particulates in older adults in West Oakland;
(2)To provide outreach and education to older adults on way to reduce exposure to particulates indoors;
(3)Support the development of ongoing capacity among community members to address environmental health (air pollution) issues.
