Naturally occurring asbestos
09/2005 - 06/2009

Exposures to "naturally occurring asbestos" on the western slope of the Sierras and elsewhere in California is becoming a high-profile public health issue. This project encompasses all aspects of work related to this issue (except for legislation), including providing technical support and consultation to local health officers, other government organizations and the general public. Previously,  with the assistance of a Public Health Prevention Specialist from CDC, we conducted a needs assessment among local health and environmental health departments regarding exposures to "naturally occurring asbestos" or NOA.    During 2008-2009 we will finalize the report on the needs assessment, distribute it to local health agencies, and make a presentation at the annual American Public Health Association meetings.
