Environmental Health Symposium for Promotores and Community Health Workers
06/2011 - 06/2011

In June 14, 2011, EHIB hosted an environmental health symposium for promotores and community health workers.

Our goal for this event was to: a) promote environmental and occupational public health at grassroots levels; b) foster collaboration among promotores and programs in CDPH’s Division of Environmental and Occupational Disease Control; and c) highlight best practices within environmental and occupational health.
Twenty five promotores and community health workers attended this symposium, representing more than twenty five California counties and staff from the Occupational Health Branch, the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch, the Environmental Health Investigations Branch, and the Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion presented at this symposium. All presentations were simultaneously interpreted to Spanish, and materials presented and distributed were translated into Spanish.
The focus of the symposium was on environmental and occupational health, with practical information that promotores could take back to their families, communities, and workplaces. The goal was to present information that would provide participants with a better understanding of the global relevance of reducing exposure to environmental contaminants.
